Surprise compliance inspections have led to the recovery of more than $129,000 in wages for 180 underpaid workers in Hobart.
Those breaches include 20 business that underpaid base rates, 18 businesses that underpaid penalty rates, five relating to pay slips, and seven with incorrect record-keeping.
At one North Hobart business, the FWO found a significant improvement in compliance since previous inspections in 2019, with 55 workers back-paid $150,905.
“Employers must ensure they are meeting their legal obligations to pay their workers proper base rates, penalty rates and overtime.
“Hospitality Tasmania is committed to continuing to work collaboratively with the FWO to promote compliance across the sector.
