Officials announced professor of engineering management and systems engineering Zoe Szajnfarber will serve as a special advisor on artificial intelligence to University President Ellen Granberg and Provost Ed Balleisen as GW enters its next phase for developing an AI strategy.
Granberg asked Szajnfarber last December to serve as senior advisor on AI strategy and lead the AI@GW mapping exercise on AI uses, opportunities and risks in University research, teaching and operations.
As special advisor, Szajnfarber will work with GW’s leadership team and deans to develop the strategy and lead institutional conversations about AI use across the University.
GW currently offers graduate programs including master’s degrees in AI and machine learning, AI engineering and AI for business, alongside other AI-focused certificates and programs.
GW’s plans for a University-wide AI strategy come as faculty have spent the past two years navigating broad University guidance that leaves individual professors to determine how AI should be used in their classrooms.
