Staff report GREENVILLE, NC – North Carolina champion Johnston County – that’s the Clayton area – won the Little League World Series on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Kentucky in the championship game. Johnston County was able to bypass regional play, gaining direct entry into the World Series as the representative of the host state by beating Rowan County 6-0 in the winner’s bracket final of the state tournament. Pitt County made a good run in Georgia, but Florida won that regional and wore the Southeast jerseys in the World Series. Rowan does have a connection with the Johnston County team as Todd Utech, former Salisbury High baseball pitcher, is one of the assistant coaches for Johnston County. His daughter, Kathryn Utech, is one of the pitchers for Johnston County.
