The Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a revised travel policy Monday requiring all official city travel to receive board approval at least 30 days in advance. Under the previous travel policy, department heads could approve travel that had already been budgeted, while only unbudgeted travel required approval from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. The revised policy requires board approval for all official travel. Mayor Willis Thompson said the revised policy strengthens oversight by requiring the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to approve all official travel. "This is just bringing some accountability and internal controls over spending and travel policy," Thompson said.
