After adding Jaylen Brown via trade and LeBron James via free agency, the Sixers still have a 15th roster spot available, but they’ll likely enter the season with that spot unfilled, Adam Aaronson writes for The Philly Voice. As Aaronson observes, once Kentavious Caldwell-Pope‘s deal is official, Philadelphia will be just $1.8MM away from a first apron hard cap, which won’t be enough room to accommodate a $2.45MM veteran’s minimum contract. In addition to being unlikely to make any more signings this summer, the Sixers probably won’t make any more offseason trades, Aaronson speculates, given that only nine players on the roster are currently trade-eligible, including four starters and this year’s first-round pick, Labaron Philon Jr.Any subsequent deals, which would presumably be aimed at the backup center spot, would probably occur closer to the trade deadline, Aaronson writes. That could mean moving one of Philon or newly signed backup guard Anfernee Simons, depending on who performs better, or backup center Ariel Hukporti, whose $3.4MM contract makes for a better trade chip than the minimum-salary deals belonging to Jabari Walker, Adem Bona, or Justin Edwards.
