Hawthorn are exploring bold new options for home games outside Victoria, with New Zealand, Canberra and Cairns all in the mix as the club looks to replicate their successful Tasmanian fortress. Caroline Wilson reports the club are looking at all options despite the potential pushback from members. “There’s a view at Hawthorn that why would they just go back necessarily to the MCG, where they’re already going to play six or seven home games a year, or Marvel Stadium? They’re exploring Canberra, and they’re exploring Cairns, where, of course, their AFLW team has played some games. Plus, the best part about Tasmania was people used to pack up and go down there for a weekend.
