Evening Edition: Missouri Voters to Decide to Phase Out Income Tax

Missouri will decide whether to eventually do away with that state’s individual income tax in an effort to better compete in the heartland.
The ballot measure, titled Amendment 5, would enable lawmakers to increase and expand Missouri’s sales tax with the goal of eventually replacing personal income tax.
The amendment doesn’t specify which goods or services would face new taxes, though Governor Mike Kehoe is against increasing levies on healthcare, real estate, or agriculture.
