He delivered the IRR's 2011 Alfred and Winifred Hoernlé Lecture on “The Future of the Liberal Tradition in South Africa.”
In his lecture, he argued that liberalism in South Africa was a key force in bringing about South Africa's smooth transition from apartheid to democracy.
