Denmark’s extended military service comes into effect
[]
The Local Denmark
Denmark has officially rolled out its new expanded military conscription model, marking a key step in a significant shift in its defence strategy triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The expanded military conscription model also now means that conscription includes both men and women on equal terms.
In 2024, 4,679 people completed their military service, all of them voluntarily, with just under 24 percent of them female.
Nobody has been enlisted in the military since 2012: all military service since then has been voluntary.
One of the women who started her military service in August is Princess Isabella, daughter to King Frederik and Queen Mary.
