Chad le Clos says his apartment in South Africa was destroyed by a fatal fire - the night after the swimmer became the most decorated athlete in Commonwealth Games history.
Only days later, Le Clos has revealed that a fire destroyed his home of more than a decade in Sea Point, Cape Town and killed one of his neighbours.
"It has taken me a while to process this heartbreaking tragedy," the 2012 Olympic gold medallist wrote on Instagram, external.
Le Clos added: "To my fellow neighbours whose homes and lives have been severely affected by this fire, please know that you are not alone.
Over his career, he has won four Olympic medals, 16 world titles, seven Commonwealth golds and 10 African titles.
