NEWPORT, Vt. (WCAX) – An international mystery has been lurking in the depths of Lake Memphremagog for more than a decade, and every answer scientists find seems to raise more questions.
“We’re definitely confused,” said Peter Emerson, a biologist with Vermont Fish and Wildlife.
Emerson said it all started in 2012, when anglers began reporting black spots on brown bullhead catfish in Lake Memphremagog.
And you can go and look– there’s no light going to the bottom of the water in this lake,” Emerson said.
The cancer cells are clonal, and they pass from fish to fish,” Dragon explained.
