Richard M. Stevenson (inset) was charged July 26, 2026, with aggravated DUI and reckless homicide in a fatal boating crash on the Fox River near McHenry the previous day. Stevenson, who has been in custody of the county jail since July 27 when a judge denied his release, appeared Tuesday before Judge Mark Gerhardt in McHenry County court. Stevenson’s attorney, Patrick Walsh, filed a motion asking the court to order multiple pieces of evidence related to Stevenson’s charges be preserved. It ensures the integrity of evidence that may be pivotal in the case, such as DNA samples or other forensic materials. Agencies involved in the investigation include the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the McHenry County Conservation District Police, the McHenry County and Lake County Sheriff’s offices and the police departments of McHenry, Antioch and Lake Villa.
