The energy sector fell almost two per cent as oil prices dipped to three-week lows on reports the US and Iran are closing-in on a deal to de-escalate fighting and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a choke-point for a fifth of global oil supplies. Woodside and Santos fell roughly three per cent and two per cent respectively, while refinery operators Ampol and Viva Energy each lost more than 1.2 per cent. Coal miners also traded lower, while uranium stocks rallied after a strong performance from US tech stocks on renewed confidence in the artificial intelligence and data build-out trade. The Australian dollar is buying 70.43 US cents, up from 70.14 US cents on Tuesday at 5pm AEST.
