The chaos unfolded around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 1 near Mile Marker 266 in Thonotosassa when a Florida Highway Patrol officer received alerts from traffic cameras. Charges included aggravated fleeing to elude and participating in a street takeover. Florida's street takeover law defines it as 10 or more automobiles coordinating to take over a roadway. The Florida Highway Patrol remains dedicated to highway safety and will enforce Florida law at every opportunity." In June, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol made 22 arrests in connection with "Operation Braking News," a crackdown on racing at car meet-up events.
