Based at the Third Air Base in Kénitra, the Canadair fleet serves as the backbone of Morocco’s aerial firefighting operations. Under the country’s four-tier wildfire response system, ground crews tackle smaller fires, while firefighting aircraft are deployed from the second alert level onward. Meanwhile, Royal Gendarmerie helicopters are mobilized for larger fires, and international assistance can be requested in the most difficult situations. Morocco has also invested heavily in maintaining the fleet throughout the wildfire season. The wildfire response system brings together the FAR, Royal Gendarmerie, Civil Protection, Auxiliary Forces, local authorities, ANEF, the National Center for Forest Climate Risk Management, and Morocco’s weather agency (DGM).
