The Oregon State University women’s basketball team is making an effort to unionize and be considered university employees, the first women’s college team to do so.
Members of the team have signed union cards with the United College Athletics Association, and filed for official representation with the Oregon Employment Relations Board on Friday, according to a press release from the UCAA’s website.
“We are aware of this matter and are gathering more information,” Vice President of University Relations and Marketing Rob Odom said.
“The holistic well-being of Oregon State University student-athletes continues to be a top priority.”
The Daily Barometer is actively trying to get the filing with the ERB and will update this story as it develops.
