Xi’s Shanghai Tour Offers No Relief for the Housing Crisis
[]
The Diplomat
Xi Jinping, president of China and general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), traveled to Shanghai in mid-July.
Xi began his Shanghai visit with an inspection tour in Huangpu District, the traditional heart of the old city of Shanghai.
Of all of China’s domestic priorities, home ownership and property investment has been both a boon and a bane.
DW noted that “the move followed a 42 percent year-on-year drop in new home sales by the top 100 builders in October, the largest monthly drop in 18 months, according to China Real Estate Information.”
However, aside from making sympathetic noises about living standards, Xi offered no new wisdom or solutions for the housing crisis.
