For all of the 1960s, the great New Zealand poet Denis Glover lived in a stucco cottage on Ames Street in the seaside village of Paekākāriki. I read Khura’s death certificate at Archives. As I stood in the Katherine Mansfield Reading Room waiting for the transcripts, I noticed the inscription on the wall nearest the front desk. *After Khura’s death, friends and neighbours put forward varying accounts of how she died, and of Glover’s reaction to it. In 2021, Otago University Press published Sarah Shieff’s selected collection Letters of Denis Glover.
