Federal judge drops Hyundai lawsuit over alleged Dali ‘design flaws’

A federal judge has dropped a lawsuit against Hyundai Heavy Industries, the company that built the cargo ship.
Grace Ocean Private, the Dali’s operator, had sued Hyundai last year over the ship’s manufacturing, alleging the ship’s switchboard had design flaws.
The lawsuit claims this caused the Dali to strike the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, 2024.
On Monday, Judge Kai Scott dismissed the lawsuit because another court is better suited to hear the case.
The defect, the company alleged, “caused the switchboard and the vessel to be unreasonably dangerous … when it left HHI’s control.”
