Wes Moore will address a new horse racing championship proposal Wednesday afternoon that could leave the future of the Preakness Stakes in limbo. Churchill Downs and the New York Racing Association announced Monday the creation of the six-race “Thoroughbred Championship Series” to start next year. The governor’s office said Moore will address the Preakness following the state’s acquisition of the intellectual property rights to the Preakness Stakes. Moore also said he would be willing to talk to Churchill Downs and the New York Racing Association about adding the Preakness to this series. New York Racing Association and Churchill Downs officials told the Paulick Report that they would be open to adding other races to the series.
