A Belfast man training to run the length of Ireland says his late father’s “love of his country” inspired the ‘head to head’ challenge. Lochlainn Quinn will set off from Mizen Head in Co Cork on August 18, and run an average of around 38 miles per day to arrive at Co Donegal’s Malin Head nine days later. A veteran of running challenges including ultra marathons, the company secretary says he wanted to take on something that will “really push me”. “When I reach Malin Head it will be bittersweet, as my dad died before seeing me take up these running challenges. “But he would be proud of me, and that will keep me going when the road between Cork and Donegal gets tough.”
