After Article 370 was abrogated, that feeling has largely disappeared, and people have become mainstreamed. Therefore, the propaganda that the abrogation of Article 370 would dilute or erase Kashmir’s identity is nothing but a misleading narrative. Besides, in Jammu and Kashmir, local political parties used to exploit Article 370 for their own political objectives. They would deliberately overemphasize Article 370 and portray it as the ultimate symbol of Jammu and Kashmir’s separate identity, repeatedly reinforcing the narrative that “we are separate because we have Article 370” and that the Kashmir issue had to be resolved separately. Besides this, Article 370 also shielded many of these political elites from central investigative agencies.
