Steamboat Springs’ popular “Touch-A-Truck” event returns this Thursday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the east end of the Howelsen Hill Rodeo Grounds, giving an opportunity for children and adults alike to have a hands-on experience exploring the vehicles that help keep the community moving, safe and connected, according to a Monday news release . Vehicles scheduled to appear at the event, weather permitting, include the Classic Air Medical helicopter, a Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue engine, a Steamboat Springs Police Department patrol vehicle and animal control van, Steamboat Springs Transit buses, the Routt County Sheriff’s Office K-9 vehicle, the Parks and Recreation’s department’s activity bus and the Twin Apex trash truck, among others. Visitors will be allowed to climb inside many vehicles, meet their operators and learn more about how each piece of equipment serves the community. The free, family-friendly event also includes a sensory-friendly quiet hour from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with no horns, sirens or emergency lights, followed by a fully interactive experience until noon. Public parking will be available in the remaining parking areas at the rodeo grounds.
