A bear electrocuted by a power line early Saturday morning in Steamboat Springs caused an outage for more than 1,000 energy customers in the city, according to a Yampa Valley Electric Association spokesperson. “We do have bears climb utility poles during the summertime, and it is not unusual for wildlife in general to climb utility poles. We have had mountain lions, lynx, raccoons, squirrels, and other animals on our utility poles before,” said Carly Davidson, a public relations specialist with YVEA. The outage over the weekend lasted more than one hour, Davidson said. “If members see a bear or any other animal on a utility pole, we highly recommend you stay away from the animal and give it space to come down on its own,” she added.
