Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has pledged more than $500 million over the next five years to support Nigeria’s national immunization programme while preparing for the country’s gradual transition toward self-financing its vaccination efforts. According to Gavi, the new funding is intended to help vaccinate millions of children while supporting Nigeria’s long-term public health goals. Over the past two decades, Gavi has invested approximately $2.4 billion in strengthening Nigeria’s vaccination system. At present, Gavi funds a significant share of Nigeria’s vaccination costs, but government contributions are expected to grow steadily over the coming years. In addition to supporting immunization programmes, Gavi continues to promote vaccine manufacturing across Africa through dedicated investment initiatives aimed at strengthening regional production capacity.
