Cameroon has launched a $160 million pandemic preparedness programme aimed at improving disease detection, strengthening emergency response systems, and enhancing the country’s ability to prevent future health crises. Cameroon faces increasing public health risks due to population displacement, regional insecurity, natural disasters, and closer interaction between humans and wildlife. A major component of the programme will focus on improving disease surveillance systems. The government plans to strengthen monitoring at key entry points, establish seven regional call centres, and expand digital community-based surveillance across more than 40 municipalities. The programme will also strengthen emergency response capacity by equipping and activating 10 regional Public Health Emergency Operations Centres.
