Maryland Governor Wes Moore has announced $5 million in new awards to expand registered apprenticeship programmes across the state, helping businesses develop skilled talent pipelines in high-growth industries including healthcare, information technology, and early childhood education. The funding comes through the Maryland Department of Labor’s Industry Apprenticeship Accelerator, an initiative designed to make it easier for employers, educational institutions, and workforce organizations to create and expand apprenticeship opportunities. Registered apprenticeship combines paid workplace training with classroom instruction, allowing participants to earn wages while gaining industry-recognized credentials and practical experience. The selected organizations will assist businesses by reducing administrative challenges, developing customized training models, and supporting the implementation and expansion of apprenticeship programmes. The Industry Apprenticeship Accelerator was established under the Registered Apprenticeship Investments for a Stronger Economy (RAISE) Act and supports the state’s broader efforts to expand career readiness opportunities and prepare residents for high-demand jobs.
