Court ruling paves way for second Gatwick runwayThe development of Gatwick Airport’s second runway is set to begin after the Court of Appeal upheld an earlier ruling that the plans could go ahead. The Court of Appeal today (Tuesday, August 4) dismissed a bid by campaigners to challenge a High Court ruling that the scheme could proceed. Pierre-Hugues Schmit, the airport’s chief executive, said the latest court ruling “brings to an end an eight-year planning and legal process which has carefully tested and scrutinised every aspect of our expansion plans on multiple occasions”. Mr Barclay and Communities Against Gatwick Noise Emissions then asked the Court of Appeal to allow them to challenge the ruling last month, claiming that the judge was wrong. Following the decision, Communities Against Gatwick Noise Emissions said it would “continue holding Gatwick to account”.
