Wafic Saïd claimed Cherwell district council had 'capitulated to developers' - Max Mumby/IndigoA billionaire former Conservative donor has accused an Oxfordshire council of "turning its back" on locals over proposals for a vast complex of warehouses near his country estate.
Wafic Saïd, a Syrian-born businessman, claimed Cherwell district council had "capitulated to developers" after it refused to defend an earlier decision to block four large logistics warehouses near Tusmore Park, Oxfordshire.
Mr Saïd rebuilt Tusmore Manor House, which is close to the proposed development, in 2000, erecting a vast Palladian-style mansion on the grounds.
Mr Saïd said: "I have been custodian of the Tusmore Estate for nearly forty years, and in that time have restored and preserved Tusmore Park to stand the test of time.
Cherwell district council had previously said the decision to drop its planning defence had "not been taken lightly".
