MORGANTOWN - Morgantown City Council is initiating steps to appoint a new 7th Ward representative following the recent announcement that Brian Butcher intends to vacate the seat in the coming weeks. To be eligible, an individual must be a qualified voter in West Virginia and a resident of the 7th Ward. Following its review of submitted statements, city council anticipates conducting interviews with applicants on Sept. 1 or Sept. 15, starting at 5 p.m., or at another date and time deemed convenient. City council expects to vote on the appointment to fill the vacancy during a public meeting on Sept. 29. He has held the 7th Ward seat since July 1, 2021.
