With highs sitting in the 80s and 90s across Colorado’s mountains, forecasters are warning of critical fire conditions driven by a combination of high winds and low relative humidity.
The warning states gusts of wind could reach up to 30 miles per hour while relative humidity hangs at a low 7-12%, significantly below the mountains’ 30-50% average humidity range.
Several Western Slope counties remain under Stage 2 fire restrictions since late June , including Summit, Eagle, Garfield, Grand, Routt and Pitkin counties.
Sunny skies, highs in the 80s and low humidity are expected to keep fire danger elevated.
Though a chance for showers returns Monday, fire officials are asking visitors and residents to remain vigilant until conditions improve.
