Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has issued afternoon “hoot-owl” restrictions on about 1,200 miles of rivers.
On most affected waters, fishing is prohibited from 2 p.m. until midnight, giving fish a break during the hottest part of the day.
Yellowstone National Park has expanded fishing restrictions throughout the park.
Grand Teton National Park has also placed temporary fishing restrictions on several popular trout waters.
Together, these restrictions now affect more than 1,800 miles of rivers across the West, along with several lakes and reservoirs.
