Sonoma Valley is mourning the loss of acclaimed winemaker and community leader Michael Muscardini, who died July 15 at age 75. According to the Sonoma Index-Tribune, the founder of Muscardini Cellars in Kenwood was celebrated for his award-winning Italian varietals, artistic spirit, and decades of local philanthropy. Before entering the wine industry, Muscardini co-founded an Oakland construction firm known for helping rebuild the East Bay after the 1991 fires. Family and friends remember him as a visionary risk-taker who brought warmth, playfulness, and exceptional craftsmanship to everything he built. A celebration of his life will be held this Friday, Aug. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Muscardini Cellars tasting room in Kenwood.
