Legislation to help improve 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifelife proposed by Houchin

U.S. Rep. Erin Houchin (R-IN) is supporting bipartisan legislation that would help inform future legislative and administrative action to better connect individuals in crisis with local emergency services.
The congresswoman on July 21 cosponsored the 988 Lifeline Location Improvement Act of 2026, H.R.
9814, alongside bill sponsor U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO) to improve geolocation capabilities and increase the effectiveness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
“The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline has been a vital resource for those facing mental health crises, saving lives across the country,” Rep. Houchin said on Friday.
“This bipartisan bill will fine tune location information for 988 calls, ensuring people are connected with local emergency services as quickly as possible when they need them most.”
