Srinagar, Aug 4: The J&K Pharmacy Graduates Association has urged the government to separate pharmacy from paramedical education, asserting that pharmacy is an independent healthcare profession deserving distinct academic and professional recognition. “Although both pharmacists and paramedical professionals contribute significantly to patient care, their education, legal recognition, and professional responsibilities differ fundamentally,” he said. Malik pointed out that several government departments continue to classify pharmacists as "paramedical staff" in recruitment advertisements and service rules, despite the profession being governed by the Pharmacy Act, 1948. The association urged the Government of India and all State Governments to formally recognize pharmacy as an independent healthcare profession in recruitment rules, government notifications, and service regulations in line with the Pharmacy Act. “A clear separation between pharmacy and paramedical education and services will eliminate confusion, strengthen healthcare administration, and ensure that each profession receives the recognition and responsibilities it rightfully deserves,” Malik said.
