****Separatism in Alberta is born of deep-seated frustrations with federal policies, particularly from the pandemic era, which left many people feeling alienated and ignored. Ultimately, using the genuine frustrations of Albertans for political leverage does a disservice to the province. This political calculation has resulted in legislation and rhetoric that grant unearned legitimacy to a volatile economic path. Alberta is demonstrably stronger within Confederation, and we are seeing positive shifts in our federal relationship. One thing remains certain: an isolated Alberta would find itself negotiating trade, infrastructure and energy corridors from a position of distinct weakness.
