The Toronto Blue Jays strengthened their starting rotation ahead of Monday’s MLB trade deadline by acquiring right-hander José Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for three prospects, including highly regarded shortstop Arjun Nimmala.
Just as valuable to the Blue Jays is Soriano’s club control beyond this season, giving the organization a proven rotation piece for multiple years rather than a short-term rental.
To secure Soriano, Toronto parted with one of the top prospects in its farm system.
Nimmala, a first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, had developed into the club’s highest-rated prospect while advancing to Double-A.
The return gives the Angels three young players as they continue reshaping their organization around future talent.
