Shark Week wrapped up its bite on the public's fascination with these marine creatures last week, but for New England Aquarium shark biologist Dr. Ryan Knotek, it's Shark Week 24/7/365. Knotek leads research in ecology, mapping, and assessment of marine populations, bringing a lifelong passion for sharks to studying shark–fisheries interactions for sustainable practices. At the New England Aquarium, Knotek and his team focus on education. The touch tank, the aquarium's shark education center, and the aquarium's main, multilevel tank, which features Cirri, a female nurse shark, are some of the venues members of the public can explore to learn more about the fascinating sea creatures. Knotek encourages those interested in delving more deeply into sharks to visit the shark and ray touch tank, and keep their eyes out for species such as the bamboo shark and blue spotted ribbon-tail rays.
