The Sanibel Public Library District’s board approved the not-to-exceed millage rate and budget hearings for fiscal year 2026-27 during its recent monthly meeting.
On July 23, the district’s Board of Commissioners voted unanimously 5-0 to adopt a tentative operating millage rate of 0.4677 mills, which is lower than the current rate of 0.5000 for fiscal year 2025-26.
The millage rate can be lowered during the upcoming budget process but not raised.
Prior to the vote, Sanibel Public Library Executive Director Amber Cox and Assistant Director Danny Hussey presented the proposed draft budget for the upcoming year as “a work in progress.”
Chair Linda Uhler, Vice Chair Shelley Greggs, Secretary Chelle Koster Walton, Treasurer Sandra Zahorchak and Commissioner Michelle Walker voted to approve the maximum millage rate.
