Inmate found dead at Hancock State Prison

SPARTA, Ga. — A 56-year-old inmate at Hancock State Prison near Sparta was found deceased in his cell Thursday morning.
Hancock County Coroner Dontrelle Andrews identified the victim as Albert Chapa, a former resident of Florida who was convicted of crimes in Georgia and incarcerated in the prison system.
Andrews said he pronounced the victim deceased at 10 a.m. on July 30.
The coroner said he knew only that a death investigation is underway.
