The Washington Avenue Bridge in Sedalia reopened Aug. 4, 2026 after an extensive project to rehabilitate the 106-year-old span over the Union Pacific Railroad. The Washington Avenue Bridge in Sedalia reopened Tuesday, Aug. 4 after a 30-month odyssey of repairs and inspections for the 106-year-old bridge. City administrator Matthew Wirt reported at Monday’s city council meeting that the contractor performing the repairs were able to complete the driving lanes earlier in the day. Only the driving lanes have reopened, with the sidewalk still closed as additional work remains for that section of the bridge. Double Arch Construction completed the extensive repairs.
