Two kayakers who went missing Saturday near Washington Island were recovered from the water Monday, ending a nearly 40-hour search. Washington Island Police, Fire and Ambulance was called to the area at approximately 6:50 p.m. Saturday. Washington Island emergency personnel conducted their own search operations until nearly 10 p.m. The U.S. Coast Guard took over from there, conducting search operations until 2:30 a.m. Sunday. The incident remains under investigation by the Door County Sheriff's Office, which extended its condolences to the victims' families.
