“We knew this is the clearest way to articulate how folks are using our libraries,” Rochester Library Director Karen Lemke said of a proposed formula presented by area library directors. “These are where the cuts would happen, if the Olmsted County cuts are made,” she told the Rochester Library Board in July. She said the request makes up for the proposed funding cut and more but seeks to reflect the cost of services provided outside city limits. A decision on county funding for libraries isn’t expected until mid-September, when commissioners will work on a proposed budget needed to set a cap on the 2027 tax levy.
