The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared the persistent grazing of cattle on Abuja roads as a national security issue, and not his responsibility. A journalist had asked the minister what steps the FCT Administration was taking to address complaints from residents over cattle grazing along major roads, including the route leading to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The minister maintained that security challenges were not peculiar to the FCT, arguing that no country was completely free from insecurity. He said, “I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja; I take responsibility.” He also described the sight of roaming cattle in the nation’s capital as an “eyesore,” while stressing that lasting solutions would require collaboration among relevant authorities and stakeholders.
