Parents across North Carolina have abandoned their jobs to watch their children as daycare bills soar. Single mothers in Cabarrus County and Rowan County spent 40% of their income on childcare in 2025. Krushani Patel, owner of Kiddie Academy of Harrisburg, said high childcare costs do not necessarily translate into higher profits for providers. Cabarrus County and Rowan County represent areas where the burden is most serious. One income must cover both living expenses and care costs.
