Morocco has always acted as a “sovereign, loyal, and responsible” partner in combating irregular migration, a government source told Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) on Monday, highlighting that migration management is a “shared responsibility” that the country has consistently fulfilled. The source said Morocco “had never acted under pressure, coercion or blackmail,” adding that the country’s actions have always been driven by “commitment and responsibility.” The source also described cooperation between Morocco and Spain on migration as “exemplary.” The source noted that Moroccan authorities prevented 74,000 attempted irregular migration crossings in 2025 and 79,000 in 2024, for a total of nearly 160,000 over the past two years. Over the past five years, Morocco has also prevented more than 360,000 attempted irregular migration crossings, the source added.
