The Baltimore Orioles are moving on from switch-hitting catcher Adley Rutschman seven years after selecting him at the top of the 2019 draft. Rutschman was traded to the Boston Red Sox ahead of Monday's deadline. At 60-51, the Red Sox are in third place in the American League East, five games back of the Tampa Bay Rays. That strong first half of the campaign likely increased Rutschman's trade value after seeing his production dip amid injury struggles in 2025. Had the Orioles retained Rutschman, the club could have kept both in the lineup by using the designated hitter spot.
