Oubre could prove a sneaky-good pickup, and Nance is a credible depth piece, but they aren't the sources of excitement in the Circle City. Instead, that distinction falls upon plans put into action long before the offseason: getting Tyrese Haliburton healthy after his Achilles tear in the 2025 NBA Finals and fully incorporating Ivica Zubac after only giving him five games following his early February arrival. The Zubac trade in particular sapped the Pacers of their offseason flexibility (costing them, among other things, the No. 5 pick in this draft), but they clearly think he can be a key puzzle piece, so it wasn't the most painful sacrifice to make.
