(Lisa Britton/Baker City Herald/File)BAKER CITY — Applications are open for the Festival of Trees community grant program organized by Baker City Downtown. Past recipients have included Baker County Safe Communities Coalition, Baker Relief Nursery, CASA of Eastern Oregon, Baker City Lions Club and the splash pad, Powder River Music Revue and Baker City Veterans of Foreign Wars. Grants, which range from $500 to $5,000, are for projects, not capital or operating costs, said Ariel Reker, Baker City Downtown executive director. Baker City Downtown is a nonprofit organization with the mission to “preserve and enhance the vitality and character of our community.”
