The shabby London Underground bridge over Uxbridge Road at Shepherd’s Bush Market is getting a repaint, with a new colour scheme chosen by local residents. The steel bridge, which carries the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines across Uxbridge Road, will be repainted in white, grey and teal after residents selected a design intended to complement the entrance gates to the historic Shepherd’s Bush Market. Hence avoiding comparisons with East Putney’s recent “IKEA bridge”, which has been criticised for its bold blue and yellow colour scheme. Cllr Zarar Qayyum, Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s cabinet member for enterprise and skills, said the station acts as “a gateway to Uxbridge Road”, which is home to Shepherd’s Bush Market as well as cultural venues including Bush Hall and the Bush Theatre. Uxbridge Road will remain open throughout the works, with pedestrian access to Shepherd’s Bush Market station and nearby businesses maintained.
